Weekend trip to Rjukan from Friday 5. October to Sunday 7. October

By Anonymous - Posted on 05 September 2012

Dear all

CPN is going to organize a weekend trip to Rjukan/Gausta from Friday 5. October to Sunday 7. October. This activity is a part of CPN's project "Kompetansesenter for innvandrere", supported by IMDi (Integrerings- og mangfoldsdirektoratet). The goal of the project is to offer information and knowledge to the new working immigrants and help them to be integrated into Norwegian society.

Rjukan is famous with its many attractions:

Norsk Industriarbeidermuseum in Vemork. You will see a film about one of the most important acts of sabotage committed during the Second World War, when Norwegian saboteurs prevented the Germans from developing a nuclear bomb from the heavy water that was produced there.

Gaustatoppen, which many claim to be the most beautiful mountain in Norway, towers majestically above the town of Rjukan at an altitude of 1,883 meters. Around 30,000 people make the trip up to the summit every year to enjoy the fantastic views from the top. The mountain road over Gaustatoppen between Rjukan and Tuddal is a spectacular scenic experience.

The Krossobane Cable Car was the first cable car to be built in northern Europe. It was built in 1928 and it was a gift from Norsk Hydro to the townspeople so that they could get up high enough to see the sun during the winter.

Please see here for more information about Rjukan:

We will stay at Kvitåvatn Fjellstoge, near Gaustatoppen. This trip is specially aimed at the new working immigrant who came to Norway in the last two years and has registered in the website You can also bring your family to join this trip. It will cost 200 NOK for each participant (both for adult and kid). Each room will have 4-5 beds. Please see the description of the room here:

CPN cannot provide common transportation for travelling. The participants have to arrange this by your own hands (by car or common transport). CPN will give some kind of compensation for the cost of travelling.

There will be many rooms (over 50 persons) to share one big kitchen. It would be difficult for many people to cook in same time. Therefore, you should bring some simple "ready food" for two days. It is also possible to eat in the hotel restaurant in nearby or in Rjukan.

  • Friday afternoon/evening: arrive, free activity
