The army reports record-high number of female applicants

A record-high 18 percent of students accepted to join the Norwegian Defence Academy in 2012 are women.

The armed forces have completed their admission process for 2012, and a total of 666 students have been accepted to the army's management training program. 120 of them are women.

18 percent of accepted female applicants are a record-high number for the university, and an increase of 1,5 percent compared to last year.

The school reports that the female applicants stood out in the several weeks of performance tests and training that is part of the admission process.

"They seem to be better prepared for the various tests that they are going through. There are also fewer females who withdraw or are eliminated in part two, the so-called field-week," says Marianne Øihals, press officer for the army in Nord-Norge.
